The UK's Barclays Bank has appointed Mark Saunders as senior technology officer at its business banking and global payments division.
Saunders joins Barclays from Bank of Montreal Financial Group where he held senior vice president positions in enterprise infrastructure and application development. Prior to this, he worked in senior IT delivery roles at Manulife Financial.
Reporting to Barclays chief information officer Don Trotta, Saunders will be responsible for overseeing the execution of IT strategy and delivery within the business banking and global payments unit.
Since Trotta joined Barclays in August 2005 from Citigroup the bank has made a string of hi-profile IT appointments including Sandeep Chouhan from Morgan Stanley, Neil Wilks from UBS, Dennis Millsaps from Washington Mutual and Heather Campbell who was recruited in December to lead an IT efficiency drive at the bank.
The IT appointments come amid management changes across Barclays units, including Barclaycard where there have been a number of senior management departures in the past year, the most recently being Richard Harvey, the managing director of Barclaycard International, who is leaving the firm to take a job with a division of General Electric.
