The UK's Barclays Bank has appointed Heather Campbell to the newly-created position of chief operating officer (COO) at its chief information office, with responsibility for the bank's IT effectiveness programme.
Campbell previously held senior technology leadership roles at BMO Financial Group and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).
She joins Barclays from Rogers Communications, one of the largest telecommunications and media companies in Canada, where she was vice president, planning, performance and governance.
In her new role at Barclays, Campbell will assume responsibility for the bank's "Getting IT Right" programme, a multi-year initiative to enhance IT effectiveness across the business.
She will also lead strategy, vendor management, governance, QA and reporting and co-ordinate the IT agenda with the HR and finance groups.
Campbell is a member of the Barclays CIO executive and reports to Don Trotta, Barclays' chief information officer.
