Freeborn has spent the past 12 years at UBS in technology roles of increasing scope and responsibility. He was most recently global chief information officer, responsibile for several thousand global IT professionals.

He will join Barclays Capital - the investment banking arm of the UK's Barclays Bank - in January and will report to Rich Ricci, Barclays Capital COO.

Earlier this year Barclays Bank appointed Citigroup's Dominic Trotta as its new chief information officer and Morgan Stanley's Sandeep Chouhan as its new senior technology officer and head of technology at its international retail and commercial banking business.

Freeborn replaces Kevin O'Reilly at Barclays Capital who left the firm in August.
