Schlumberger's Prismera cards have been developed specifically for markets that use Proton e-purse technology and have won the approval of Belgian interbank payments body Banksys.

The contract with ING is valued at EUR3 million. The bank expects to begin issuing the new cards to customers in 2004.

Philippe Cambriel, Emea cards vice-president at Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, says: "Prismera is a clear demonstration of our commitment to providing tailored EMV solutions for banks and financial institutions operating in diverse markets."
