Gemplus' Herne site in Germany is the final regional centre to receive EMV certification. The vendor says all its personalisation sites have passed audits set by the global payment card associations and it now has the largest coverage worldwide.

EMV cards can be personalised to the same level using Gemplus' GemSense solution at its centres in the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. Working to capacity, Gemplus says the centres can process 16 million EMV cards in 12 weeks.

The personalisation centres enable banks to issue customised smart cards on a worldwide basis and also provide services such as urgent processing and prestige packing.

Jean-Éric Garnier, vice president, banking and retail, Gemplus, says issuers can also deploy the GemSense solution for in-house bureaus.

"This unique combination offers the flexibility of in-house operation, backed-up by the industrial strength of large scale personalisation centres," he adds.
