EU is being accused of regulating too much - even if California copied GDPR. Then Harari is describing the AI-driven future's many dangers in NEXUS to millions of readers. The pressure to do something - starting from a proper x-Atlantic analysis - is growing.
To me the ongoing rollout of the EUDI Trust Infrastructure with wide identity (all needed verified credentials) - to organisation, citizen and thing/app wallets, should mitigate many of the risks identified - without need for too stifling regulation. Needless to say that banks - as traditional trust suppliers - should step in faster (as discussed in the Mobey Forum).
Quoting from Timo Hotti's blog text:
"The promise of autonomous systems—entities capable of operating and making decisions with minimal or no human intervention—has stirred considerable excitement. Yet, as these sophisticated agents move from controlled simulations and constrained environments into the complexities of the real world, a significant challenge becomes apparent: a pronounced trust deficit. It is no longer enough that an autonomous system can perform tasks correctly in a lab; the real question is whether it can build and maintain trust in environments where clarity, security, and accountability matter. At the core of this trust deficit lies the issue of provenance: Can anyone be sure about the true identity of an autonomous participant, or confirm the authenticity of the data and decisions it relies on? Too many current solutions emphasize efficiency and sophistication in algorithmic reasoning without addressing the foundational need to verify who is interacting. Without a proven means to anchor identities and ensure that each agent’s claims are both secure and verifiable, trust becomes a fragile asset—easily undermined by uncertainty, manipulation, or malicious intent."
