The upgrade includes an installation of Sun Fire V880 enterprise servers running the Solaris Operating System to improve speed, scalability, security and reliability. Enterprise migration services for the upgrade of Brut's operating environment were provided by Sun Services.

Cris Conde, president and chief executive officer of SunGard, says the upgrade will double the speed and triple the capacity of the ECN. He adds that the system is fully resilient, with primary and secondary levels of redundancy.

The Brut ECN trades Nasdaq and exchange-listed securities. SunGard claims that volumes on Brut have increased by more than 50 per cent since it acquired the exchange in August 2002.
