The pilot development with Spar will see customers at the Inverkeithing store conducting banking business as well as buying their usual grocery items.

The refurbished store includes 500 square feet dedicated to banking, which will be staffed during peak hours. Customers will be able to withdraw and deposit cash using instore ATMs, while free phone lines will connect customers to a wide range of additional Bank of Scotland services. A separate seating area will ensure privacy for customers to discuss banking matters with staff.

"At a time when the reduction of localised banking facilities throughout the UK is a serious issue, the new Spar outlet in Inverkeithing endorses our commitment to providing accessible and innovative financial services," says Nigel Bascombe, operations director, outlet configuration, Bank of Scotland. "Work and lifestyle patterns are also changing, and it is important that we respond by providing access to banking services in the most appropriate locations."
