Customers of the bank's online offering, Servicash, have been provided with Vasco's Digipass 810 card readers, which generate unique one-time passwords when a PIN is entered. Users then enter the password when logging on to their accounts.

Vasco's card readers are also being used by the bank's employees to log on to its corporate virtual private network, allowing them to securely access it anywhere at any given time without installing additional hardware or software on computers.

Caja de Extremadura claims to be the first bank in Spain to roll out EMV CAP compliant card readers.

"The explosive growth of online banking services and consequently the rising number of fraudulent attacks required the implementation of a strong security mechanism," says Virgilio Daza, head, organisation, Caja de Extremadura. "By choosing Vasco's Digipass 810 card readers, we've added an extra layer of security in accessing our e-banking services and corporate network."
