Japanese Mizuho Bank is rolling out multi-factor authentication technology from e-security firm Vasco to users of its retail Internet banking service, Mizuho Direct.
Vasco says the bank is the first in Japan to select its authentication technology and devices.
Under the agreement the bank will implement Vasco's Vacman Controller system and roll out the vendor's Digipass GO6 client authentication devices to users of its Mizuho Direct system. The device generates a unique one-time password for customers to use online.
Vasco says the Mizuho deal is an "important breakthrough" in the "strategically important Japanese market".
