The Macalla-supplied Mobile Top-Up service enables Bank of Ireland customers to top-up their own prepaid accounts, and those of friends and family, directly from their mobile phones by sending a free text message to 50365, and to pay for the transactions via their bank account. Registration is via any Bank of Ireland ATM.

The service, called Text Top Up by the bank, went live at the start of May and is available to Bank of Ireland customers on Vodafone and O2 networks.

Dublin-based Macalla worked directly with the bank on a full-service turnkey basis to deliver the the software platform and a range of consultancy, technical integration and on-going support services. The system provides connectivity with the mobile operator SMS delivery and prepaid billing systems and the bank’s payments systems, and includes a suite of Web-based applications for call centre and supervisor staff to manage the on-going operation of the service.
