Spanish savings bank Caixa Galicia has signed a contract with Cisco Systems and BT for the provision of a secure IP-based voice and data network.
The contract includes an order for 3200 Cisco IP telephones which the bank will roll out to 550 of its 720 branches as the first phase of a five-year plan to update and improve its technology infrastructure.
The deal also includes the supply and installation of 150 Cisco Catalyst switches for connectivity with the metropolitan area network (MAN) and 450 ADSL cards for voice transport over the WAN.
José Valiño, CIO of Caixa Galicia, says: "The convergence of our networks in a single IP infrastructure will allow us to respond more effectively to out clients' needs, both remotely and in branch offices."
This telephony solution will be delivered by the VoIP multimedia service of BT Spain. Jordi Ferrer, business development manager, Cisco Systems, Emea says: "Thanks to Cisco and BT's converged solution, financial entities can integrate customer information with the company's voice services and other new services such as video within the office environment."
