Under the agreement, Unisys will provide the Ohio-based bank with both software and hardware to provide end-to-end cheque imaging.

Unisys says an integral part of the system is its payment information engine, which Huntington will use to track data across the enterprise. The engine, which runs on Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 operating system and uses the SQL Server 2000 database application, can access a range of external systems and internal image databases, allowing the bank to import, capture and store transactional information.

The bank will also use the vendor's image exchange software to validate image quality and clear and settle transactions, while Unisys' image security product will be used to validate images with digital signatures.
