The first centre was opened in Kuala Lumpa, six months after Unisys won the Maybank contract, and the remaining three are expected to be fully operational by November 2003.

All four centres will run on Microsoft Windows 2000 and SQL server platforms.

Maybank says the outsourcing deal will enable it to introduce new lockbox and archive services for its customers.

Unisys says it will use the centres to offer payment processing services to other financial institutions in the region.
