The UK's Barclays Bank is offering cash machine users across the country the chance to win tickets to Premiership football matches in a bid to drive more transactions through its ATM network this Christmas.
In order to win the football tickets, customers using a Barclays ATM will need to check the back of their printed receipts for a winning picture of football goal posts with a free phone number. Winners will then need to call the free phone number to claim their tickets.
The bank says it expects a surge in the demand for cash over the Christmas period. Over £1.3 billion was withdrawn from Barclays cash machines between the 1st and 25th of December last year, the equivalent of 17 million cash withdrawals.
Barclays says 86,000 cash withdrawals were made at its cash machines on Christmas Day, totalling £7 million in withdrawn cash - approximately £80 per transaction.
Furthermore, Barclays says it expects its customers to spend over £4 billion on their debit and credit cards on Christmas shopping and predicts that the 22nd and 23rd December will be the busiest shopping days this year. The same two days last year saw shoppers spend around £400 million on their credit and debit cards.
