Misys says its Message Manager system provides a secure, managed and audited connection between the bank's numerous back office applications and existing Swift Alliance system, allowing Absa to remove a number of manual processes.

The bank, which went live with Message Manager in May, says the system will eventually process 30,000 messages per day.

Patricia Sithebe, head of trade settlements, Absa, says: "By allowing us to remove many of our manual processes, Misys Message Manager has delivered significant reductions in risks and costs to our business.

"In addition, the solution supports the new messaging infrastructures that we required to seamlessly take on new SwiftNet services and XML standards."
