Guys have been on Trial and Error mode from 2014 onwards. Realised their mistakes and spend close to EUR 1 Billion in 2015 as technology upgrade and job cuts have been regular in the bank since then.

When ATMs had mostly Motorised card readers similar thing was proposed to several card issuers to reward customers for selecting to capture expired cards instead of throwing it in dust bin.
This is another initiative for going green - Appriciate if bank goes for Solar based power for its data center just like Google.

It seems Japan wants build crypto currency and circulate in tandem with fiat currency with limited risk exposure ( P2P lending) may be that is reason conversion ratio is 1. For the same reason they want to allow customer to charge their mobile wallet from ATM or withdraw Yen till the time it gets matured in use.
However, I agree with Declan and Rik on implications on money supply.

It is old trick of Inflating valuation as I can put my dollar on Ten such companies which does similar work.
Need to find those advisors who misled Investor community with such inflated valuation !!!

Banking services are business services leveraged by both parties (Fintech and customer/s) for mutual benefit. Either party has rights to call it for day based on it's business KPI.
Customers do close their accounts for various reasons and churn so better check on what parameters have changed which resulted in this churn.

Card networks and few of the security platforms stretch them to supply its own certified network access equipments and software. SWIFT may lead towards such act or can explore ( CISCO, Bluecoat and Juniper may be listening :))
