Digital Monopoly

Be the first to comment

Dave Birch at Consult Hyperion has come up with a splendid wheeze for the tenth annual Digital Money Forum. The goal of the not-for-profit Forum is to encourage discussion and debate around electronic money in all its forms.

This year, Dave has got together with toymakers Hasbro UK to run a charity Monopoly tournament at the end of the first day. For an additional fee of £25, Forum-goers can play a special edition of Monopoly dubbed  'Here and Now Electronic Banking'. Rather than using old-fashioned paper money, game-players are presented with Visa-branded 'debit cards' to store their cash.

Hasbro is donating a number of sets to use for the tournament and to give away as prizes during the Forum

“Rather than just send cheques to charities, as we usually do, we thought it would be more fun to play Monopoly and then send cheques to charities,” says Dave in his excellent and always thought-provoking Digital Money Blog

Charities supported this year include the Fountain Centre for palliative cancer care at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
