Bank of America is one of the first banks to integrate its cards into Visa Checkout and provide seamless enrollment directly from its site, eliminating added steps and making it easier than ever for customers to shop online, on any device.

Visa Checkout offers a single sign-in service and a faster and easier way to pay online. Once enrolled, customers shopping at participating merchants simply click the Visa Checkout button and pay, eliminating the need to enter card and shipping information every time they make a purchase. Now, rather than being directed to Visa, Bank of America customers can enroll directly through the bank’s Online Banking.

Customers using Visa Checkout can choose to enroll multiple credit and debit cards and then can choose the enrolled card they want to use for fast and secure online shopping. Their eligible Visa card details and shipping information will then be automatically populated at checkout.

"This is part of our broader payments strategy to deliver solutions that make financial transactions simple, fast and secure and to provide customers with convenient options,” said David Godsman, emerging payments executive at Bank of America. “Consumers are increasingly shopping online, and with the new simplified enrollment for Visa Checkout, they now can spend less time signing up and more time enjoying the benefits of one-click shopping.”

"By working together, Visa and Bank of America are bringing seamless and secure commerce to millions of online and mobile shoppers,” said Sam Shrauger, senior vice president of Visa’s Digital Solutions. “Bank of America customers can easily sign up to start using the cards they know and trust across any device or browser, as easily as they do in the physical world.”

In addition to services like Visa Checkout, Bank of America participates in a number of mobile wallet programs that give consumers a convenient way to pay, including Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay from Google. Earlier this month, Bank of America was one of the first banks to launch real-time person-to-person transactions through Early Warning’s clearXchange™ network.

This is great. Anything that simplifies things for consumers is a good thing. Also, the industry needs more competition to make ecommerce offerings better and more efficient. Competing brands are always a good thing.

I find it surprising to read about "pre-selection" of customers for such a foundational service. Why do services such as Visa Checkout not roll out faster, and can they really afford not to do so?
