Aconite and Xiring have teamed to deliver an offline solution for authenticating EMV-compliant smart cardholders transacting over bank Web sites.
The integrated authentication solution comprises of the Xi-Sign, a pocket-sized, smart card reader from device manufacturer Xiring and the back office host system software, EMV Authenticator, from Aconite.
Cardholders visiting bank Web sites insert cards into the Xi-Sign reader and exchange PIN and one-time pass codes to gain entry.
Eric Planchard, international business development director at Xiring, says the combined solution authenticates the cardholder to a similar degree as in a traditional face-to-face transaction.
He adds: "Now, using EMV cards, the banks can deploy a simple and cost effective solution to secure Internet payments and e-banking financial services."
