Pen says its plan to install the machines at convenience stores, pubs and clubs around the UK throughout 2003.

Simon Rubin, NCR's vice president for financial self-service solutions for Northern Europe says that 50% of ATMs are now situated away from bank branches and the market is expected to double in size by 2005.

"The EasyPoint 53's small size, easy management and lower cost makes it ideal for the convenience market," he adds.

In addition, the EasyPoint 53 will also allow UK retailers to provide mobile phone top-ups and utility bill payment at the machines.

Pen entered the convenience market in February 2002. Nick Platt, Pen's managing director, says the agreement marks a significant development for the firm's UK ATM business.
