Thomson Financial strengthens sales team

Financial information vendor Thomson Financial has appointed Joachim Lauterbach as sales director, Europe, and Richard Garnier to head up sales in the UK.

Lauterbach joins the company from Capco where he was managing director and partner in the firm's Frankfurt office.

He has also held sales and management positions at Reuters, Tibco and Thomson Financial.

Garnier was previously commercial director at Raw Communications. Prior to this he was managing director, Europe, at Internet Securities and has held senior sales positions at firms including Datamonitor, Financial Times Information and Maxwell Communications Corporation.

Lauterbach and Garnier will both report to Sue Lait, sales director, Thomson Financial Europe, and are joined by senior sales managers Shahid Hanif and Julian Butterworth who worked for Moneyline Telerate and Reuters respectively.

Thomson Financial Europe recently announced the shake up of its European operation in a bid to target and win market share from rival vendors Reuters and Bloomberg. The new appointments follow a wave of redundandcies at the vendor's European offices last week, which led to the axing of 100 staff as part of a cost-cutting programme.

In a further move, Patrick Tierney, the chief executive of Thomson Financial who has steered the company through its current shake-up is to step down at the end of the year. He will be replaced by David Shaffer, chief executive of Thomson Learning. Tierney has told Thomson staff that he wants to fine tune his turnaround skills at other companies.
