IBM wins Sun Life IT outsourcing mandate

IBM has won a seven-year C$250 million information technology outsourcing contract with Canadian insurance company Sun Life Financial.

The agreement - which is expected to be ratified in July - calls for IBM to provide a raft of operational services to Sun Life, including: eServer zSeries and iSeries, e-mail services and Lotus Notes applications, network security (firewall and intrusion detection services), Web hosting and disaster recovery.

Approximately 120 Sun Life IT employees will be offered contracts with IBM under the deal.

John Wright, EVP and chief information officer, Sun Life, says: "We are integrating our infrastructures, business systems and operations with the purpose of obtaining business and IT synergies. Outsourcing this range of services to IBM is a sound and attractive integration strategy,"
