German banks and Nasdaq exploring exchange options - Dow Jones

Dow Jones in Frankfurt is reporting that three of Germany 's biggest banks, the Berlin Bourse and US technology exchange Nasdaq are in exploratory talks to set up a trading platform that could rival Deutsche Boerse.

The report quotes an unidentified source who says that talks between Commerzbank, Dresdner Bank, HVB and the two bourses are aimed at creating an electronic exchange on which international shares can be traded.

The move would be a blow for Deutsche Bank, which reportedly earns substantial amounts processing orders through Deutsche Boerse's new Xetra Best trading system.
