The AI-powered service - which was rolled out in Hong Kong in August - is now available to the slice of WeChat's one billion global users that are in the States.

The portal will let people get updates on US markets, indices, sectors, currencies and futures as well as get a quote and track company events or trends. There are also educational videos and WeChat’s unique ‘Shake’ feature will help people discover and watch relevant content. Meanwhile, customers can chat with an automated or a live agent any time.

The WeChat integration is just TD Ameritrade latest move to connect with customers through as many third-party platforms as possible - users can already carry out similar actions on Facebook Messenger, Amazon Alexa, Apple Business Chat and Twitter Direct Message.

Sunayna Tuteja, head, strategic partnerships and emerging technologies, TD Ameritrade, says: "We want to meet our clients where they are and engage with them on their terms. Our goal in applying technologies like AI and machine learning to the conversational platforms people use every day is to help make investing simpler and more accessible to more people."
