In an attempt to explain to Welsh speakers that they could make free withdrawals at the ATM, the new store plastered "codiad am ddim" above it.

However, "codiad" translates as erection. According to the BBC, the shop was probably grasping for "codi", which means lift.

The cock-up was spotted by Aberystwyth councillor Ceredig Davies, who shared it on Facebook, where it went viral.

I thought it was funny but I think they should have gone the extra mile and checked it out with a Welsh speaker," he told the BBC.

Tesco has now taken the sign down, promising to replace it with a more accurate translation.
