Customers will soon be able to check their account balances on the Internet using a service from AvantGo and Bpass.
The new service, called BankPass, will be accessible through AvantGo's mobile Internet service. It will provide consumers with secure, real-time access to their banking and credit card account balances.
According to Mike Aufricht, general manager of AvantGo's mobile marketing and commerce division, a recent survey found that almost two-thirds of AvantGo users would like mobile access to their online bank account.
BankPass claims to be the first Internet gateway to the global ATM network that enables consumers to access their balances without requiring them or their bank to use any special software or hardware. Consumers can use the BankPass service even if their financial institution does not offer online banking or they are not registered for online banking services.
