The Gear 2 is Samsung's second attempt at launching a wearable device with mass appeal for consumers. The refashioned Gear 2 and lighter companion watch Gear 2 Neo boast a heart rate sensor, a pedometer and various tools to measure exercise, sleep and stress levels.

The watches come packed with an embedded camera and run on Tizen OS, a fledgling proprietary mobile operating system from Samsung, rather than Google's Android software.

The PayPal app - available from April - will enable Gear 2 owners to check-in to pay at local stores, save and redeem offers, send money to a friend instantly, and receive payment notifications while on the go.
