ANZ is issuing MasterCard PayPass stickers and memory cards to staff to test the technology in retail locations. The move comes just months after ANZ began issuing its first PayPass-enabled credit cards to consumers.

Terminals capable of accepting contactless transactions are still limited in NZ. Westpac Stadium and Eden Park were the first retail locations to introduce the technology, with merchants such as Hell Pizza, St Pierre's Sushi and Corporate Cabs set to come onstream in July.

As with credit cards, mobile users will be able to make tap-and-go transactions up to a maximum of $80.

In Australia, ANZ in March initiated a four-week trial of micro-SD technology from Visa that converts an iPhone into a contactless payment device.
