Bank of America is inviting customers to trial a new mobile wallet programme, using BlackBerry handsets to make contactless payments.
The invitation-only trial - first spotted by BoyGeniusReport - will see BofA customers with certain BlackBerry models given the chance to test the technology from this Spring.
Participants will be sent new battery covers and microSD cards that enable them to make low value payments at the point-of-sale by waving their handsets over terminals where MasterCard PayPass is accepted.
Bank of America has already teamed with Visa to start testing mobile contactless payments technology in New York as momentum behind the technology builds.
However, widespread adoption of contactless m-payments is still at least two years away thanks to poor coordination between industry players, according to a recent survey from vendor Sybase 365.
