The issue was fixed by midday, says the bank in a brief statement: "We are aware of some internal technical problems that impacted our customers' payment transfers this morning. We have now resolved the problem and are processing payments normally. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused our customers."

Meanwhile, Australia's Commonwealth Bank has also been hit by a glitch that left some customers unable to access their account information. The issue, caused by a "late running overnight file", affected some of CBA's NetBank and CommBiz customers as well as ATMs. The file was processed by noon local time.

Rival National Australia Bank has also suffered tech woes over the last month, with ATMs, Internet banking and card processing all affected by intermittent network issues.
