PayPal's Mobile Payments library - which lets developers add checkout functionality for physical goods and services sold through the iPhone - has moved into open beta.
The library is a "quick and easy" way for developers to charge for goods and services sold through iPhone and iPad applications without having to collect and store debit or credit card information.
The library launched in a closed beta to some US developers in February and several apps using it are already live. Now, it has entered open beta, making it available to developers everywhere that the Apple App Store is available.
The library is an important element of the PayPal X global payments platform, which the company introduced to the developer community in November in a bid to make it easier to integrate the payment system with other Web sites and applications.
