Database management outfit Sybase is rumoured to be close to an agreement to acquire independent complex event processing player Aleri.
Rumours circulating among well-placed industry insiders suggest that Sybase will go public with an announcement some time this week.
Sybase last year launched its own CEP engine using source code licensed from San Francisco-based Coral8. The licensing agreement stipulated that the Coral8 code could only be used as an optional extension to the Sybase RAP anlytics platform.
The deal was announced just days after Coral8 was taken over by rival vendor Aleri. The vendor has since embarked on a major development programme to integrate the best features from the Aleri Streaming Platform with the Coral8 Engine.
A roll-up by Sybase would provide a firm financial footing for Aleri as it undertakes a risky redevelopment programme and offer Sybase a stand-alone CEP engine that it could market into other industry verticals, such as health care and telecomms.
Calls to the Aleri and Sybase press offices late Monday for a statement went straight to answerphone.
