The Singapore Exchange is working with telecomms outfit StarHub to provide real-time financial news, stock prices and - ultimately - execution capabilities to 511,000 cable TV households in Singapore.

SGX to woo couch potatoes with market data via digital TV

The new service goes live Thursday on StarHub Digital Cable's Interactive TV. Armchair stock traders will be able to compile a personal portfolio and track its performance based on the latest stock price movements from SGX.

SGX says it will progressively introduce more sophisticated market depth and analysis and the capability to carry out transactions onscreen with a click of the remote.

The exchange is currently working with StarHub to upgrade the live feed and plans to include the real-time values of the Straits Times Index and FTSE ST Index Series by end of this year.

Once the technical foundations are laid, the stock market feed will be supplemented by data services for derivatives traders, says Lai Kok Leong, SGX vice president and head of data services,
