In his newly created role, Ronan will be in charge of defining business and IT ventures, comprising business, application, technical and data architecture.

Ronan will also chair a committee of IT and business representatives of the bank, to ensure alignment between the groups and the development of new projects. He reports to Saxo Bank's COO and head of IT and operations, Tobias Straessle.

He joins from financial services consultancy Capco, where he was a partner following the acquisition of City Practitioners last year where he was senior consultant.

Meanwhile Thorball - also reporting to Straessle - will oversee Saxo Bank's global market data activities, covering prices, news and reference data.

He was previously head of global data sales and of market data at Nasdaq OMX. Prior to this Thorball was head of market data at the Copenhagen Stock Exchange which was acquired by OMX in 2005.

Commenting on the new appointments, Straessle says: "These hires directly reinforce the recognition that IT development and service are core functions of the bank and demonstrate that we are committed to hiring the best talent in our bid to maintain our position as leaders in this field."

Saxo Bank says the newly created roles are being introduced to take the busines to "the next level of its IT and service capabilities and to ensure greater strategic alignment between business and IT ventures".
