The 2D marketing campaign uses technology from movistar, a mobile phone operator owned by Telefónica.

The bank embeds a 2D code, which is similar to a bar code but capable of storing more information, in printed advertising material. If a customer is interested in the mortgage product they can take a photo of the code with their mobile phone. This action gives them access to further information and enables them to watch a promotional video on their handset.

Banco Sabadell is currently using the technology as a new marketing channel to generate interest in its "Hipoteca Joven" mortgage product which is aimed at the under-30s.

The mobile marketing system is the one of the first application to come out of a EUR57.5 million joint venture established earlier this year by Banco Sabadell and Telefonica to develop any time, anywhere 'instant banking' services incorporating new interactive TV and mobile telephony channels.
