Swiss German derivatives exchange Eurex has appointed Heike Eckert as head of its US subsidiary.
Eckert was previously head of sales and marketing at Eurex and a former head of the exchange's office in Chicago.
Eurex says Eckert assmued her new positiion earlier this month and is responsible for customer support and new customer acquisition, as well as new business development in North America.
Eurex launched its US exchange in February 2004 to compete against the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in US Treasury futures trading. But the unit failed to capture a significant share of the market and struggled as soon as it was launched.
Last year Man Group acquired a 70% stake in the business and renamed it US Futures Exchange (USFE). The venture now focuses on providing products for hedge funds and retail investors, rather than competing against the established futures exchanges in Chicago.
