BBS will use the Sterling Multi-Enterprise Finance Gateway to consolidate card and domestic transaction procesing systems, which were previously managed by diverse, overlapping hardware and software.

Sterling says the platform manages multiple payment formats and communications protocols, including United Nations/Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce, and Transport (EDIFACT) and Swift FIN messages.
The system also provides content-based message routing of messages, which will enable BBS to create additional revenue streams by offering new information services.

"Sterling Multi-Enterprise Finance Gateway has enabled us to provide a single gateway for all payments processing, thereby reducing costs and increasing revenue," says Knut Bjerke, executive vice president at BBS. "Alongside our new UNIX-based platform, Sterling Multi-Enterprise Finance Gateway has enabled us to transform our business, streamlining and automating our payments processing. We are now well-placed to build on our existing strengths and diversify our service offerings in Norway and, by way of Swift, across the rest of Europe."
