The Sterling Commerce software replaces PBS' proprietary system, General Transport, which was used to process and transfer business and consumer payments electronically using x.25 and x.400 protocols.

Connect:Enterprise enables PBS to transfer data and files, such as payments and salary information, to customers via the Internet. The product enables PBS to offer customers a range of Internet connection methods, including HTTP/S, S/FTP and Connect:Direct Satellite.

Bent Overgaard Johansen, head of department, new business areas, PBS, says: "Connect:Enterprise allows us to meet our customers' demands for a safe, automated method of sharing various file types across the Internet. In addition, we were looking for a solution that can expand in accordance to our needs ensured by its flexibility, stability and interoperability."
