US bank Wachovia has teamed with California-based VeriSign to launch a mobile SMS-based service for students applying for loans.
Wachovia says the service will be available through its Educaid division and will help students complete loan application processes and provide faster access to funds.
Doris Grose, president of Educaid, says: "Students will be notified via their mobile phones that their loan applications need additional information."
The text messaging service will be powered by VeriSign's Intelligent Messaging Network.
Vernon Irvin, EVP, VeriSign Communications Services, says: "Educaid is taking the advantages of SMS technology to students, giving them faster loan approval and processing - no matter where they are located in the United States, and no matter which carrier their mobile device uses."
