Mobey Forum and Visa Europe are demonstrating the use of mobile authentication at this year's Mobile Content World exhibition in London. Content for the demonstration has been supplied by Walt Disney and Finnair.

The Verified by Visa service authenticates shoppers at the point of purchase with a password. The cardholder's bank validates the authentication before authorising the transaction.

Visa says consumers prefer using the same payment cards for m-payments that they already use at the point-of-sale and for online purchases.

The Mobey Forum says as new mobile phones support TCP/IP connectivity and secure data transport, banks will be able to use online payment products in the mobile channel, regardless of the type of handset or mobile network used by customers. Advanced browsers and open development platforms such as Java MIDP and Symbian also allow merchants to develop more interactive mobile services.
