Customers calling to use the service identify themselves by keying in their account information, and can then obtain up-to-date trading data by saying the name of the company, eliminating the need for keying in share numbers.

Irit Berger, manager of direct banking, Israel Discount Bank says: "The speech recognition capability in the Israel Discount Bank interactive voice response system is an essential component in improving communication with our customers. From now on, stock market data will be easily accessible and customers will enjoy rapid and convenient access to trading data in real time."

The bank says it also plans to add speech recognition applications to its online banking service.
