Komercni Banka issues Gemplus EMV cards

Komercni Banka, a banking subsidiary of Societe Generale based in the Czech Republic, has begun the mass issuance of multi-application EMV Maestro and Visa cards, using smart cards and software supplied by Gemplus.

Gemplus has supplied the bank with chip cards and its GemSense turnkey personalisation software, as well as applications for authentication, micro-payments and loyalty functions.

The new smart cards are designed to support multiple applications, which can be activated any time after the card is issued.

Zdenek Bubak, area sales and marketing director, EECIS, Gemplus, says: "We look forward to helping Komercni Banka bring the project to its conclusion in the near future with the delivery of lifestyle Cards using Gemplus' multi-application card technology."

Gemplus has been providing the bank with consulting services for smart card projects for the last two years.
