Helsinki-based eftpos terminal vendor Manison is to market and distribute Trintech's PayWare Smart 5000 point-of-sale terminals to banks and retailers in Finland and Sweden.
Dublin-based Trintech says Manison will use its EMV-certified terminals to prepare clients for a forhtcoming switch to chip and PIN-based technology at the point of sale.
Paivo Eerola, managing director, Manison, says: "We have found in the Smart 5000, a uniquely powerful and open platform that addresses the needs of busy checkouts.
"Using the Trintech SmartPIN interface software, integration with EPOS applications is straightforward for our customers."
One hundred thousand EMV cards have a;ready been issued in Finland and it is anticipated that over 50% of cards will be enabled with smart chips by the end of 2004. The migration also entails the introduction for the first time of PinPads at the point-of-sale. Finland will commence its first EMV pilot in early 2004.
