Anglo American has migrated its treasury operations in Johannesburg to SunGard Treasury Systems' AvantGard-Quantum platform.
AvantGard-Quantum is already in use at the firm's London operation. The new implementation provides 20 treasury department staff in Johannesburg with real-time access to company servers in London.
Grant Howell, vice president, treasury, Anglo American, says a major benefit is that there is already a configured database in London and the staff expertise that goes with that.
"It allows us to share consistent data, standardise operations between the two offices and benefit from a measurable cost savings from rationalising onto a single system," says Howell.
Implementation of the treasury system began in February 2003 and was completed in July.
