Standard Life Bank launches hate your mortgage site

Editorial

This content has been selected, created and edited by the Finextra editorial team based upon its relevance and interest to our community.

The site - www.hateyourmortgage.com - was constructed by digital agency DNA Consulting and has its own virtual agony aunt, a rant line and a spoof letter which visitors can use to dump their current mortgage. Standard Life says the winner of the best online rant will have their mortgage paid by the bank for a year.

Standard Life Bank claims millions of homeowners hate having a mortgage and would love to get rid of it. David Macmillan, director of sales and marketing, Standard Life Bank, says: "We're trying to channel that negative into a positive to encourage visitors to the site, not just to vent their anger but also to urge them to take action over their mortgage."

The bank has also introduced a 'love your mortgage' section to its site which features spoof photo casebooks and personal ads that encourage customers with mortgages at other banks to call Standard Life for a new one.
