In June last year Visa invested directly in Looppay, as reported by Finextra.

The reason for my confusion is that Looppay is not compatable with EMV, and if Visa are serous about EMV as a global solttion, then this is a transitional soluton at best.

Hence my comment about card skimmng in reverse - Looppay is definately not EMV compatiable.
I was lucky enough to see a Looppay dongle yesterday, and while this is impressive technologgy, it is aimed at preserving a broken mag-stripe based payments system for a single geographic market.
Looppay will not work with EMV enabled cards and terminals that already widely used by the rest of the world. (http://www.looppay.com/faqs/)

Great description of the opportunities for merchants outside the ApplePay/NFC hype.
We are actively working on a solution that runs on both private label cards and open loop scheme cards.

Is it me, or is this just card skimming in reverse?
If Visa were serious about EMV in the US why are they investing in this technology?

There is more to mobile payments than NFC !
This is a great story of increasingly widescale adoption of contactless payments. Most of these payments will be by cheap and cheerful contactless cards, but many people are now hoping that the small (but growing) number of phones equipped with NFC will be used in place of such cards.
A mobile phone can bring much more value to a payment than simply emulating a contactless card!

With all the electronic touchpoints avaible that provide more reliable and less fraud prone identification this initiative just seems like bringing an irrelevant process not quite up to date.

This is Uber for the forecourt - it promises a great user experience.
I also saves me from unnecessary impulse buys in the forecourt shop - a double benefit.

The branch is the bank - is the mantra of Handelsbanken, who are the now fastest growing bank in the UK.
I agree with all the comments above that visiting a typical Branch is pointless, however this is because those typical branches have become mere service channels with no authority to deal with customers directly.
A Branch without a proper Bank Manager offers little more benefit than an ATM.
Many bank branches are now full of "helpful and friendly staff" which are not able to actually help customers. This is not a good distribution channel.
Devolve back some responsibility, allow branch staff to make decisions, and make it worthwhile for customers to visit a branch and the business will follow.
Of course we all agree that successful banks still need great online self-service capabilities, but these should complement a great Branch experience rather than replace it.

Finally a proven business case for "Big Data".
The danger is that this case could create a precedent and spawn a whole new raft of regulation, rather than just enhancing the existing data protection rules.

A brilliant idea for Christmas markets!
