The industry isn't tired of fintech; it's tired of the same individuals who bounce from one government-backed initiative to the next, racking up awards and titles with little to show for it.
Having both transitioned from corporate environments to startups and scale-ups, we know all too well what happens when the same faces keep showing up at the table. What the sector truly needs is diversity—diversity in both people and in the way we approach funding. Scale-ups aren't seeking hundreds of millions; sometimes, they just need enough to keep going. Yet, current funding models are driven by FOMO and short-term gains, with a focus on quick exits. Did Ford or Shell build their businesses on a two-year strategy? Then neither should fintech.

Only in the UK would we celebrate a loss of £55 million in any other company in any other industry the ceo would be looking for a new role. As would the w tire c-suite.

So Monzo has raised $590 million in two weeks. When are these ‘banks’ ever going to turn a profit. I’m just thinking.. one of their customers goes into the bank and says hello, we’ve been going ten years we haven’t made a profit as yet but can we have a loan please’. So this is what you have to do to get a free pass to money20/20 and an MBE.

Nothing like shuffling the chairs. Same old people same old events. Same old issues. And no one facing any issues for the $30 billion ‘fine’. It’s called marking your own homework.

The Irish government always spends more than it has. It’s the Irish property market all over again. The fact remains that FinTech is still full of prepaid cards and dull Apps.

Another pointless app runs out of someone else’s money. It’s shame their own app couldn’t predict that! This is a worrying trend. Pointless solutions looking for a problem that doesn’t exist.

Another advertorial from people who have never built or led a payments company. More fireside chats and making money from events. The fact is that investment has gone through the floor. There is no point comparing the UK to other markets. We should be comparing where we were v where we are going. Why don’t you post the number of Fintechs who have been wound in the last year for balance. How many of the companies who pitched at the FinTech fringe have been given any money? Oh yes zero.
