Supposedly, my great-grandfather was a bookie at the dog tracks for the mafia in the US. We'll save that for when 'Who do you think you are?' comes calling.
Anyway, I made a few calls and emails today to find out what the collective wisdom was for who will buy Chi-X Europe. So here is my unscientific odds on who will end up with the MTF.
BATS - 100/1
Heard this from a few people actually. But most thought "unlikely".
Nadsaq/OMX - 5/1
Actually the front-runner in the rumour stakes. But most people think an Nasdaq OMX purchase of Chi-X Europe would be "foolish"
Deutsche Borse - 5/1
I'm actually giving DB tha same odds as Nasdaq/OMX, because the smart money seems to be on the German bank being the bidder. Co-location with Eurex anyone?
Normura/Institnet - 200/1
OK, so no one thinks Instinet is in the running. But may maybe they're going to pick up the rest of their share? No? OK, only me then.
LSE - 10/1
The London Stock Exchange has been named as a possible suitor in many papers. But no one I talked to did. Would Rolet risk it?
Anyone one else want to take a guess?
