There are many employers who ban the use of social networking sites during work hours so as to avoid an office of distracted employees. However according to recent research by the University of Melbourne, they may be better off allowing staff to use Twitter or Facebook whilst they work – workers who use the internet for personal reasons at work are apparently 9% more productive than those that do not. However they did point out that if internet use was very high or addictive, productivity would be lower!
